Twitching & Nocturnal Cramps

Honestly I try to avoid this area like the plague anymore. I am a 2.5 year twitcher. My question is for those who have cramps. I have having nocturnal cramps but only in my left foot. I have had them for probably about a year, but they were rare, so I didn't pay much attention. Recently they have been happening almost every night. I used have have really bad twiching in the same area where it would make my toes move back and forth, but that seems to have slowed now. Anyone else get nocturnal foot cramps? If so are they always the same foot. Of course in my head I am fighting off the fear that this is a focal area of nerve damage, and the fact that they keep happening at night while I am sleeping is very bad. I should also point out I can stop the cramp within seconds and there is no soreness following. All I have to do is straighten my foot out and they stop. And it only ever happens once per night.

I have that for years on and off when I am stretching myself during the night, and I even have a soreness after! what should I think then? I prefer to think it is my bad blood circulation causing it (because now after few years of exclusively sitting work they start to come also during a daytime). But I still can walk so I try do not bother myself with fears. I laso have widespread cramps, also for years, also on and off, this year, however, worse then ever - when I was on vacations! (so I suppose it is still related to being too nervous - I was absolutely alone in Portugal, quite faraway from home withut speaking Portuguese :)))In fact cramps might be a result of improper breathing habits, which usually get worse during the night. look for recent Chrissi's topic about Chvostek sign.

I know that I have had these for at least 1 year. In fact my last post on this site was about the same thing. I don't have any problems with strength. I teach marching band, and I can demonstrate to the kids how to stand up on your toes to move backward, and I have better balance than them. I can also carry my 50 lb six year old up the steps no problem. I am Hypothyroid, but take synthroid for it. I am sure now for a check up on that, just haven't scheduled the appt. I am also a body wide twitcher. I get them everyhere, and get hotspots too. Just 2 days ago I had hotspots going in the left foot, right thigh, left hand (index and thumb), and right by my nose. This would all be so much easier if doctors accepted this as a real condition, and you could actually go and say "hey I'm having a flare up" Instead we deal with the fears that we are progressing to something else. I can mostly fight off the fear, but It's hard some times. Especially when you wake every night to a foot cramp, and your mind starts to race.

but if you have enough load on your legs - and even much more than enough - then maybe it is just a sign of overload? In fact we are very differernt - I am sitting typing -worker and you seem ot have much more activity!I just would like to say that still without weakness etc. our cramps are just another annoying symptome. I took magnesium for a month and I would say I become better (less spasmophylic), but I do not know it it was due magnesium or just due to gradual relaxation of my fears (my daughter is now far away from home and would be there al least for 3 years for now :)). I understand you conditions, just may assure you that (especially with hypothyroid!) you might have that for years without any bad effect. As for waking up in the night - on my own experience I know that it is possible to become used to that crap. usually it happens when you are stretching in the night, probably in a rapid phase, and it is quite easy to wake yourslf up during that period not only because of cramp, but just because it is naturally a period of shallow sleep when you can actively move your body.In Porto this summer I had so powerful cramp in my front chest muscle that believe me I thought I have seizure and my collar bone is broken! God knows what I was thinking about the whole night... In the morning I had to go to full day wine tour... and it \was anyway Saturday, so no doctor was available... and I thought OK if it is broken, I would know it for sure till the end of a day... and I forgot about it comoletely... it was just strain caused by awkward movement in the bed! and I am sure it was something related to CO2, because it was a small room completely sealed at the window, so I am pretty sure I was quite rising my CO2 level in the inhaled air... and as soon as I started to sleep with open window (listening to crying Porto beggars all night long), my cramps had really went down :)))

Cramps , I dont think there's an hour goes by were i'm free of them, and i must jump out of bed at least 3 times every night. Toes, Foot, calf, thigh, the whole leg, hip etc
